Design is one of the most exclusive faculties bestowed upon us by the Almighty. It is a passion for our ‘feel good factor’ adding excellence and efficiency in our activities. Over a period of time ‘design’ visibly extended its arms in various directions like architecture, fashion, textiles, graphics, visual communications, commercial and applied arts, interiors, multimedia, jewelry and microscopically to the nail art etc. All these ‘design’ expressions mark their presence independently but are continuously and consistently synergizing each other to create newer as well as taller domains for ‘design’.
The number of people interested in design skills is continuously increasing year after year. Design practices/studios/labels/consultancies are growing. The architects & designers may support the growth of ‘design’ in its various domains.
While we ponder and come up with ideas for the growth and synergisation of ‘design’ with its different attributes, designers do need a next line of people to support them – ‘barefoot designers’ is an attempt for skill development and employment. Barefoot Designers are:
- armed with training to support designers
- value skills imparted to them including traditional knowledge
- inculcate self-reliance for their employment and
- disseminate domain specific knowledge
These people with rich skills in any domain and may be without any degree/diploma. Their skills provide them employability and much needed support to ‘design practices/studios/labels/consultancies’.
Your ideas with respect to ‘skills’ that you feel the ‘barefoot designers’ should have are welcome and may be posted on the platform of architects & designers forum www.facebook.com/naresh.garg.3304 . With this information, we move ahead to see, how these skills/training may be imparted and how the barefoot designers may be ‘connected’ with the ‘design practices/studios/labels/consultancies’ etc.
